WHAT IS RED LIGHT THERAPY?

With red light therapy, you expose your skin to a lamp, device, or laser with a red light. A part of your cells called mitochondria, sometimes called the “power generators” of your cells, soak it up and make more energy. Some experts think this helps cells repair themselves and become healthier. This spur healing in skin and muscle tissue.

Red light therapy uses very low levels of heat and doesn’t hurt or burn the skin. It’s not the same type of light used in tanning booths, and it doesn’t expose your skin to damaging UV rays.

WHAT TYPES OF PAIN IS RED LIGHT THERAPY GOOD FOR?

DPL RED LIGHT THERAPY WRAPS ARE SAFE FOR ALL SKIN TYPES

Red light therapy is generally a secure method of treatment. There are no reports of red light therapy being harmful to any skin type in all of the research conducted. However, it should be noted that extensive exposure to any light type can be damaging to the skin. It's vital to practice moderation.

WHAT DOES A TENS UNIT DO?

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a therapy that uses low-voltage electrical current to provide pain relief. A TENS unit consists of a battery-powered device that delivers electrical impulses through electrodes placed on the surface of your skin. The electrodes are placed at or near the nerves where the pain is located or at trigger points.

WHAT IS A TENS UNIT USED TO TREAT?

TENS therapy has been used or is being studied to relieve both chronic (long-lasting) and acute (short-term) pain. Some of the most common conditions for which TENS has been used include:

  • Osteoarthritis (disease of the joints).

  • Fibromyalgia (aching and pain in muscles, tendons, and joints all over the body, especially along the spine.

  • Tendinitis (an inflammation or irritation of a tendon).

  • Bursitis (inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs that cushion joints).

  • Labor pain.

  • Low back pain.

  • Chronic pelvic pain.

  • Diabetes-related neuropathy (damage to the nerves that connect the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body).

  • Peripheral artery disease (“hardening of the arteries” that circulate blood to the body).

In addition, TENS should NOT be applied: To infected tissues, wounds due to osteomyelitis,

or if you have tuberculosis. TENS therapy may result in the spread of infections.

  • To areas of tissue that have been recently treated with radiation.

  • To damaged skin (Except for open wounds where the intent is to use electrical stimulation to heal tissue. In these cases, therapy should be guided by a skilled therapist.)

  • Near or over eyes or mouth, front or side of neck, or on the head.

  • Near reproductive organs or genitals.

  • To areas of the body that lack or have reduced sensation.

  • In persons who have trouble communicating or who have a mental impairment and cannot provide feedback to ensure the safe use of TENS.

If you have any current or past health issues concerns or questions, always check with your healthcare provider before using a TENS.

STRESS TRIGGERS PAIN:

Chronic stress in the workplace can significantly impact how the body responds to pain. When under continuous stress, the body's natural pain-modulating mechanisms can become compromised. Stress triggers the release of stress hormones like cortisol, which, when elevated over extended periods, can lead to inflammation and hypersensitivity of pain receptors. Additionally, stress can cause muscle tension and poor posture, exacerbating physical discomfort. This heightened sensitivity to pain can result in an increased perception of discomfort and reduced pain tolerance, making it crucial to manage workplace stress for both physical and mental well-being.

IN CLOSING:

A combination of a TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) unit and red-light therapy wraps offers a multifaceted approach to alleviating stress and reducing pain in the body. The TENS unit delivers low-frequency electrical pulses through electrode pads to stimulate the nerves and muscles. This stimulation can help to block pain signals from reaching the brain, providing immediate relief from discomfort. Simultaneously, red light therapy wraps utilize specific wavelengths of light to penetrate deep into the body's tissues, promoting cellular regeneration and reducing inflammation. This combination not only targets pain at its source but also encourages the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers, to elevate mood and reduce stress. Together, these therapies provide a non-invasive, drug-free solution for managing pain and stress, allowing individuals to experience enhanced well-being and improved quality of life.
